Why do different speed-test websites give different results?
Each service measures a different network path to different servers and may use different connection counts and durations. Wi-Fi conditions and congestion also change moment to moment, so compare several runs under similar conditions.
Wi-Fi vs Ethernet: which is better for a speed test?
Ethernet usually removes wireless interference and signal-strength variation, making it better for checking the fixed-line connection itself. Wi-Fi testing is still useful when you want to measure the experience of the device where it is normally used.
What do download, upload, latency and jitter mean?
Download measures data received per second, upload measures data sent per second, latency measures round-trip delay, and jitter describes how much that delay varies between samples. Different activities care about different combinations of these metrics.
Why can this result differ from another speed-test website?
Speed tests measure the path between your device and their own test servers. Server location, peering, Wi-Fi conditions, congestion, connection count and test duration can all change the result, so compare several runs under the same conditions.
How much data can the speed test use?
The test transfers temporary synthetic data for several seconds in both directions. Faster connections can use more test data than slower ones because more information can be transferred during the measurement. Your personal files are not used.
How accurate is this speed test tool?
Network speed changes with WiFi quality, server distance, congestion, VPNs, browser overhead and test endpoint capacity.
What should I do if the speed test result looks wrong?
Pause cloud sync, VPNs and downloads, move closer to the router and repeat at a different time if results look much lower than your internet plan.
