Webcam Test
Preview your camera locally with resolution, aspect ratio, mirror and camera switching controls.
How to use this test
Click Start Webcam Test, grant camera permission, check the local preview and reported resolution, then switch cameras or mirror the image if needed. Press Stop when finished.
How the measurement works
MediaDevices opens a local video stream and the browser reports track settings such as width and height when available. The stream is attached directly to the page preview.
How to interpret results
A stable preview confirms browser access to the selected camera. Reported resolution reflects the active stream configuration, which may be lower than the camera's maximum sensor resolution.
Troubleshooting tips
Close conferencing apps using the camera, verify OS privacy permissions and reconnect USB cameras. If the preview is black, switch the camera selector or refresh after granting permission.

Common webcam questions
Why is my webcam showing a black screen?
Camera permission may be blocked, another app may already be using the device, the wrong camera may be selected or a hardware privacy shutter may be closed. Stop other camera apps and reselect the camera.

On supported mobile devices, the browser can request user-facing or environment-facing cameras. Availability depends on the device, browser and permission state.

Browsers negotiate a stream size based on defaults, bandwidth, device capabilities and system load. The active video track can therefore be lower than the sensor's maximum still-photo resolution.
