MOUSE TESTS · HELP & TROUBLESHOOTING

Scroll questions, fixes and result guides.

Practical answers for common scroll problems, confusing results and setup questions — with a direct path back to the live test.

01
Fix a problem

Why does my mouse wheel scroll too fast or too slow?

Operating-system scroll settings, mouse software, smooth-scrolling extensions and the wheel hardware can all change scroll distance and event cadence. Compare the same browser and settings before assuming the wheel is faulty.

02
Compare

Is trackpad scrolling comparable to mouse-wheel scrolling?

Not directly. Precision touchpads often generate many small smooth events while notched wheels can generate fewer larger events, so compare each device against its own previous results.

03
Fix a problem

Why does my scroll wheel sometimes move backwards?

Intermittent reverse steps can come from a dirty or worn wheel encoder, driver behavior or gesture processing. If reverse events repeat across apps and browsers, inspect or clean the wheel and test another device.

04
Benchmarks

Why are trackpad and mouse-wheel scores different?

Precision trackpads and wheel mice generate different WheelEvent sizes and cadences. The test normalizes units, but the devices still use different input behavior.

What does normalized scroll delta mean?

Browsers can report wheel movement in pixels, lines or pages. We convert those modes to an approximate pixel-based value so the rate is easier to interpret.

06
Explain it

How accurate is this scroll tool?

Different browsers, trackpads and mouse drivers scale scroll delta differently.

07
Fix a problem

What should I do if the scroll result looks wrong?

Use the same browser and OS scroll settings for comparisons. Smooth-scrolling extensions, accessibility settings and precision touchpads can change event size and cadence.
